VA Med Ctr - Wade Oval

VA Vanpool

What is a Vanpool?

A vanpool is a group of 5 – 15 people who commute to work on a regular basis in a van. One person volunteers to be the Driver/Coordinator of the van. The riders share a fee that covers the cost of operating the van. Participation is on a month by month basis, so there is no long term commitment. The vanpool group determines their daily route. Riders meet at a designated pick-up location such as a shopping center. There may be more than one designated location if the group agrees.

What Benefit does the VA provide?

VA employees are eligible for the maximum transit benefit authorized by Executive Order 13150. For 2011 the transportation benefit is up to $230 per month. This benefit is available to all VA employees who commute daily on qualified mass transit, including train/subway, bus, vanpool or ferry. (Carpools do not qualify). Employees receive a direct subsidy for their monthly qualified transit expenses up to $230.

What do NOACA and VPSI provide?

NOACA provides a Guaranteed Ride Home Program, so you always have a way to get home, as well as assist in matching riders to form a vanpool group.

VPSI provides the van (minivan up to 15 passenger vans), the maintenance, insurance, licensing, registration, etc.
